HOS Trip Planner & Backup ELD · Last updated July 10, 2026

HOS Trip Planner is built local-first: your logs live on your device. Nothing leaves it unless you sign in to sync, buy a subscription, or share something yourself. This page lists everything the app collects, where it goes, and how to delete it.

What stays on your device

  • Everything, by default. Drivers, trips, duty logs, GPS trails, edit annotations, malfunction records, fuel purchases, settings, and generated PDFs are stored on your device. Without an account, none of it is sent to us.
  • Your drawn signature never leaves your device — it is deliberately excluded from sync so no one else (including a dispatcher you share a driver with) can ever hold or apply it.
  • No advertising, no analytics, no trackers, no selling data — on the app or this website.

What we collect when you create an account

An account is optional. It exists for two things: subscription licensing and multi-device sync. When you sign in, we store:

  • Your email address — sign-in and license management.
  • Your synced records — drivers, trips, duty-status logs, GPS location trails, edit annotations, ELD malfunction records, and fuel purchases, so your data follows you across devices. Location is captured only while you have an active trip open (about once a minute) and only with your permission.
  • Subscription status — whether your license is active.

Driver sharing

If you generate a share code and give it to someone (for example, your dispatcher), that person's account receives the shared driver's synced records — duty logs, locations, annotations, and malfunction reports. Sharing is entirely user-initiated, and revoking a share stops further updates.

Third parties

  • ProMiles — routing, mileage, and location lookups. When the app plans a route or resolves a GPS fix to a nearby city, the relevant coordinates or place names are sent to ProMiles' servers. We do not send your identity with them.
  • Stripe — web subscription payments. Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • Apple / Google — in-app purchases on iOS and Android are processed by the platform stores under their own privacy policies.

Deleting your data

  • On-device data: delete drivers or trips in the app, or uninstall the app.
  • Account and synced data: sign in to this website and use Account → Personal data → Delete, which permanently removes your account and its synced records. Deleting a driver also cascades tombstones to devices it was shared with.

What this app is not

HOS Trip Planner is not a registered ELD (electronic logging device) and does not transmit anything to the FMCSA or any government system. It produces the paper records 49 CFR §395.34 requires while a driver's ELD is being repaired or replaced, and helps plan and audit hours.
